Overview
We are ready to help with funding, The eThekwini Municipality is inviting all qualified South African citizens who are permanent residents of the eThekwini Municipal Area to apply for the eThekwini Municipal Student Relief Fund, and every person who qualifies should apply. The year 2024 is the expected start date for all first-time undergraduate students at public higher education institutions.
Please know that this financial aid is not private, rather, it is for a full-time study program at a public university and will be awarded depending on academic achievement, which means the percentage or pass mark rate will be considered. The primary goal of the financial aid is registration, a portion of the tuition fees may be covered, however, it is not intended to cover all costs for lodging, meals, books, sports, transportation, or any other associated expenses.
Applying for admission to and being accepted into a higher education institution is the student’s responsibility. So since all the costs of studying will not be covered by this financing, students are urged to go and apply for financial aid from other sources as well.
Here are the important requirements needed, so all the applications should include the following information/documents:
- A copy of a grade 12 certificate if you have completed your NSC (grade 12) and have not studied in any other higher education institution.
- An academic record if you are studying at the moment at a higher education institution.
- Proof of income/salary for both parent’s and guardians (for example, a pay slip/letter from the employer, a sworn statement, or a tax return statement for self-employed parents or guardians).
- The combined income of parents and/or guardians is R160 000.00 and should there be 2 or more students in a household, the cut-off is R200 000.00. Proof of unemployment is also required if parents are not working for the Department of Labor.
- Certified copy of your South African ID and parent or guardian ID copies or death certificates, where applicable.
- An acceptance letter from the public higher education institution will be needed, as will a financial statement from the institution.
- Motivation from the applicant on why you should be considered for financial assistance as well as a proof of residence with the name of the applicant to show that you live in the area of Ethekwini.
All the applications that are not complete will not be accepted at all. Candidates who are underrepresented in terms of gender, color, or disability, as well as eThekwini inhabitants, will be given priority.
Following the advertisement’s closing dates, people who have applied should consider their applications unsuccessful if they have not heard from or been notified within 10 (ten) weeks. Applications from those with impairments are also encouraged.
